Chelsea Youngsters v Newcastle?
Carlo Ancelotti’s pre season policy of not to buy heavily in the transfer window and to give the youngsters a chance, will no doubt be in full view tomorrow night when the Carling Cup gets under way with the visit of Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge.
Although the team is still to be announced, I think we can all assume that the policy of resting players for a demanding season will continue with the likely introduction to the starting eleven of players like Sturridge, Kakuta, Bruma, Van Aanholt, Borini and McEachran all ready to show what they can do.
Frank Lampard is due back in the starting team after his groin operation and perhaps forty five minutes might be just right in this ‘less demanding’ game to get him in better shape for Saturday’s trip to Man City. Ramires may also start and share the 90 mins with Lampard, Yuri Zirkhov could also make a showing on the left, Benayoun in midfield and Turnbull may well be in goal with the injury to Hilario.
All speculation of course but whatever the team turns out to be to face the Geordies, you wouldn’t have to be a brain surgeon to work out that Carlo will be setting his team out with Saturday in mind and, don’t expect to see too many household names in the starting line up tomorrow night!….we shall see.
