Brief: Birmingham 1 Chelsea 0

Carlo will need to ‘soak up’ the pressure from the press this week!

Chelsea went to St Andrews looking to turn around the recent run of poor results and performances. Birmingham City had been going through a bad period themselves and looked ripe for picking in the foggy Midlands this afternoon.

The Birmingham Blues looked a very poor side from the off, and the expectations were high as Chelsea went for the kill early on, which made a nice change from starting trying to win the game after halftime!

A lapse in concentration saw Chelsea go behind when ex Leeds player Lee Bowyer pounced onto a header down to slot calmly past Petr Cech. All in all it still felt that this was simply a blip in the system, and before too long we would get back into it.

The second half seemed to be an endless onslaught against the City goal, but despite many chances we couldn’t get past Ben Foster who had an outstanding game, and we left the ground wondering how we didn’t get anything out of the game.

So, Carlo Ancelloti and new assistant Michael Emenalo have three days to work on what it was that went wrong, before the Champions League game on Tuesday night against Zilina.

Perhaps the appearance of ‘Sponge Bob Squarepants’ in the Chelsea crowd may be more significant that it would first appear, with Carlo having to ‘soak up’ the pressure he now finds himself under after two successive league defeats
