Football specials, long lost London music venues, Trafalgar Square, button badges, DM boots, house parties, supermarkets, job centres, crap football and birds – the turning of every page jogs the memory back to a time when your only worry was not waking your mum up when you got in at 2am from a gig on a Tuesday night and getting into Chelsea didn’t require a 50K salary and two hours in a virtual waiting room.
From the first page it felt like the author had been writing the story of my young life – Bolton at home, Clive Walker and Liverpool in the cup; freezing your balls off at Luton away and dancing like mad in someone’s living room.
This is cracking book – it doesn’t glorify anything just tells it as it was at a time when many of us didn’t have anything but had everything – we thought we owned the world.
