Leicester City v Chelsea – Match Summary

Wednesday 29 April 2015 – Leicester 1 Chelsea 3

Leicester (A) 1 [1]We’re gonna win the league….

On an evening of varied weather conditions, we saw Petr Cech start in goal and Didier Drogba given the nod, no Remy, Costa or Oscar on the bench.

A pretty even first period, and while not creating a great number of chances we were in control of the game. That was until the end of the half when we became stretched at the back, some furious defending required, and just into stoppage time a ball fired across our defence was put away by Leicester’s Albrighton after Azpi had slipped on the rain drenched pitch. HT 1-0.

Leicester (A) 2 [2]With a few choice words from Jose in the half-time dressing room and the proverbial boot up the backside, the boys in yellow re-emerged revitalised, and within 3 minutes our veteran striker Didier Drogba had put us ahead. A quick run into the box by Ivanovic, a short pass to Didier who turned and fired low into the bottom corner. Vintage stuff from the old boy! We were firing on all cylinders now, some sublime passing play and fantastic attacking runs by Man of the Match Willian, so fast on the break.

The away fans in good voice, thankfully drowning out the dreadful din of the home fans’ drum and clackers ensemble. We continued to maintain the cracking tempo, our boys playing with attacking purpose, passing the ball around with ease and looking to pinch the lead. With 12 minutes remaining it was our captain, leader and legend who duly obliged when he shinned the ball over the line following a probing corner, the ball rebounding off the keeper. They all count!

Leicester (A) 3 [3]The game was there for the killing with our domination of the second half. Just 4 minutes later, and while the away fans were belting out another rendition of Boring Boring Chelsea, Ramires fired a screamer into the top corner. Cue the delirious scenes in the away end, as limbs flew and bodies piled up in the aisles.

And with that killer goal came our first substitution, Zouma on for the brilliant Willian, shortly followed by Cuadrado for Hazard and Mikel for magic Fabregas. Running down the clock it was elation at the final whistle as the away fans continued to celebrate, with the team walking over to join in.

So, just one more win needed, and we could be crowned Premier League champions at the weekend with our next fixture at home to Crystal Palace in the early Sunday kick off. The champagne has been put on ice….
