  • I went to this game as a 16 year old venturing out of London to support the blues for the first time.A full house Anfield in those days had an amazing atmosphere with the Kop in full voice before and during the game. However Tambling’s winner silenced them and we left with our tails in the air.Ossie had a wonderful game.Ossie when 19 years old had been brought into the team by manager Tommy Docherty ,a few weeks before, replacing fans favourite Barry bridges at centre forward, Around this time he scored one of the finest goals of his career ,at Burnley when he ran from his own penalty area beating about 5 Burnley players before rounding the goalie and slotting home.Burnley fans gave him a standing ovation.Happy days.Maybe if we gave some of our young players a chance like Tommy Docherty did (I’m thinking Loftus Cheek who has a very similar playing style to Ossie)who knows what might happen?
