A good piece of writing and sums up a fair piece of our history, my time as a blue started when my father (who was born in Brittania Road and a life long supporter) took me along to SB as a young boy in the early 50’s and then I started going with him on a regular basis standing on the old west terracing in 1956. I moved into the shed at the start of the 1963 season much to my dad’s disbelief, (bunch of yobbo’s you don’t want to go in there) but for a young boy it was fun, singing, chanting and the occasional..(disagreement !!) with opposition fans trying to take it over, (not if Mick Greenaway had anything to do with it).
Time moved on and I succumbed and bought myself a season ticket in the east stand but had to give it up after many years due to work commitments.
Sad to say, these days I don’t feel inclined to go to SB as having a bad back and fans insistence on standing every time something happens, by the time I manage to get up I’ve missed the action, much better sitting at home watching all the action on tv.
Ah, but so many happy memories, hopefully I’ll still be around by the time the new stadium is built and I’ll make a trip up to SB to take a look.
Once a blue always a blue and let’s hope our season is better than the last.

Lovely article. Great memories. And agree with all you say about modern football. My first game was a 0 – 0 draw at SB with Liverpool back in march 72. Ossie, Cooke, Hudson, Chopper. Glad I saw them all.

First game v Fulham at SB 1961 – still a ST and go away as much as possible. Seen them all and Ossie & Zola remain the tops, followed closely by Tambling, Cooke and Bonetti. Roll on tonight – new horizons in view, new tactics, different personalities but still need Terry’s character. The circus will go on and that’s what makes our club different, beguiing to us Blues, and so annoyingly attractive to opposition fans!
