Transfer window deadline day 2022: Everything you need to know

From the official Chelsea FC website:

With the 2022 summer transfer window coming to a close, we have all the information you need about deadline day in England and elsewhere around Europe, as well as squad lists for the Premier League and Champions League…

When does the transfer window close?

In England and Scotland, the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Thursday 1 September.

When does the transfer window close in Spain, Italy, Germany and France?

All five major European leagues will close their transfer window on the same 1 September deadline, although not all at the same time.

The majority of countries share the same 11pm deadline. Clubs in Italy and France will need to register players by that time, although Spain officially requires transfers to be completed by 10.59pm.

Germany continues its tradition of being the first of the major leagues to close its transfer window, with the Bundesliga requiring all deals to be completed by 5pm.

Which countries can still sign players after that date?

There are a handful of European countries who will allow new players to be registered later than England, most notably Belgium (6 September), Turkey (8 September) and Greece (15 September). The last UEFA-affiliated country to close its summer transfer window in 2022 will be Israel, on 28 September.

When is the transfer deadline for Chelsea Women?

The transfer deadline for the Women’s Super League is a week later than the Premier League, on Thursday 8 September, meaning Chelsea Women have until the end of that date to sign new players.

What happens after that deadline?

If a transfer is agreed between two clubs late in the day, the Premier League grant some additional time for the relevant documentation to be completed and submitted.

A deal sheet can be sent to the authorities to indicate that a transfer agreement has been reached, after which the clubs are handed an additional two hours to complete the remaining paperwork.

What are the Premier League squad list rules?

The window’s closure means squad lists must be submitted. Premier League clubs may register 25 over-21 first-team players, of whom a minimum of eight should be homegrown.

In this instance, homegrown is defined as someone of any nationality who was 21 or older on 1 January 2022 and spent a total of three years registered to an English or Welsh club prior to the end of the season in which he turned 21.

Coaches can supplement the squad with any number of under-21 players (born on or after 1 January 2001) whatever their country of birth.

What are the Champions League squad list rules?

All 32 clubs taking part in the Champions League group stage have until midnight on Friday 2 September to submit their squad for this season’s competition.

For the Champions League, each competing club has to submit a List A comprising up to 25 players with a minimum of eight locally-trained players, of whom four must have come through the club’s own ranks between the ages of 15 and 21.

List B, made up of players aged 21 or younger with two years’ training at their club, can still be updated at any time up to midnight (central European time) before a match.

Who have Chelsea signed this summer?

The Blues have brought in Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling so far this summer.

Chelsea Women have added Eve Perriset, Kadeisha Buchanan, Katerina Svitkova, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Jelena Cankovic to Emma Hayes’ squad.
