  • Let’s not get completely ahead of ourselves shall we? I enjoy seeing Liverpool struggle as much as anyone and knocking Tottenham out of the champion s league but we were very very close to finishing sixth and joining the thursday night on channel 5 group. Had things gone differently we would be looking at 2-3 years minimum of struggling and rebuilding on limited funds. I don’t think you realise just how close we were to

    There is still a lot of work to do before we can compete with the likes of city and utd again, we finished 25 points of the pace last season and have seen 3 senior players leave. Signing Hazard is a big step forward and shows intent and the club’s willingness to invest in top talent but there are other parts of the team that need strengthening.

    • Thank you for your comment. I can assure you I’m not taking lightly our position or getting ahead of myself.

      We were the 6th best team in the PL last season, and need to rebuild, in fact we have needed to rebuild for several years but did not.

      AVB talked a good game but went about it all ham fisted. A good coach of course, but poor people management, thus we were in a poor position come last March, our owner made the change and RDM had a target to reach. We gambled and won. Yes it could have been very different but it is not, all credit due to RDM and the players.

      So in all truth we are in a very different position now. Winning the CL puts us now in the global elite, thus players like Hazard have arrived, and its not finished yet, quite a bit more work to do, but I’m commenting from a position of fact. We could have failed… but we did not the gamble worked. No Champions league and a reduced income would put more pressure on Mr Abramovich, but it did not happen, so I can crow as much about it as I like.

      Both Tottenham and Arsenal have problems of their own making. We got past ours, bit of luck? yes, but ask any chairman who do they want as a manager a good one or lucky one….. we know the reply.

      We still have an issue of a bigger ground to over come and attract more good players, but we do it from a position of strength. I’d not like to be in Man Utd position, they also need to rebuild and last season they got lucky, because many other teams including us were also woeful. Utd have funding issues.

      Arsenal’s is well documented and when a string of top players leave on a consistant basis, there is a clear problem. Backed up by Usmanov their second largest shareholder complaining about the running of the club, they have a big problem 7 years of failure is a problem.

      Tottenham, self inflicted and apart from a league cup win in 2008 at our expense, bugger all to shout about. Last season amazing collaspe would be alarming for any club (teams worked them out)and they had no responce. New manager and club have something to prove, but without CL football.

      Liverpool have been poorly run for years, they need more revenue a new ground and improved team, they have continued to slip year on year and falling further behind. They have a good manager now, who will rebuild them in time.

      We are in a great position and yes 25 points behind last season, but that was last season we all start level again in August with a clean slate. RDM has showed he can manage. Our issue is a new ground.

      However reality is now, not what could have been. We could have got relagated in 1983, but we did not. Yes the team needs more rebuilding, but we still have a few weeks to go.

      I will take reality and not what could have been, I deal with the here and now, and not what did not happen. It looks very much like we are learning from a potential disaster that did not happen.

      Take a little look at our global fan base….. Its massive and growing

  • @JR84 We could have easily finished 4th if that was all we had to play for.

    Now we’re about to witness a football apocalypse the likes of which have not been seen since 2004.

    let the good times roll.
