  • When some of the tweeps suggested to me that our defenders have lets us down at Stoke, I argued vehemently that the forwards were the problem. Good to see that you share my thoughts!

    I think there are problems right down the spine of the team.
    Cech is not the ‘keeper he was and needs someone to challenge him for the number 1 spot.
    The defence is fragile – centre backs do not complement each other and are too similar.
    In defensive midfield we have players who are playing out of their favoured positions.
    Up front, we need to end the Torres pain and replace him with someone better.
    And overall, the squad is unbalanced with too many ‘fancy dans’ and not enough fighters.

    Having said all that we are still challenging on all fronts. If we can resolve one or two of the issues above in January then we can continue to challenge this season, and then re-balance the team in the summer.

    The most important task for January is to sign a defensive midfelder and a centre forward. Easier said than done though.
