Date confirmed for Chelsea Women Champions League semi-final first leg
From the official Chelsea FC website:
Emma Hayes’ side will take on Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals with the details of the eagerly anticipated first leg at Stamford Bridge now known.
We will welcome Barcelona to the Bridge on Saturday 22 April, with kick-off at 12.30pm (UK time) so you do not have to wait long to see the Blues back in action on the European stage.
With the drama and emotion of our quarter-final exploits still fresh in the mind, excitement is building ahead of another mouth-watering European encounter at Stamford Bridge, and tickets for the semi final first leg are on sale now with prices starting at £15 for adults and £8 for juniors and seniors.
Our Champions League journey continues after we overcame eight-time champions Lyon across two legs during the month of March, bringing a 1-0 lead back from across the Channel in the first before securing our spot in the semi-finals with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory in the decider at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.
Having fallen two goals behind on the night, Maren Mjelde scored from the spot with the last kick of extra time to level the aggregate score. Penalties were required in front of the Shed End where a combination of clinical finishing and goalkeeping heroics from Ann-Katrin Berger sealed the victory.
Our journey to the semi-finals began as we progressed to the knockout phase as winners of Group A taking 16 points from 18 available against Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Albanian champions Vllaznia, before the quarter-final draw pitted us against serial winners of the competition, Lyon.
A date and subsequent kick-off time for the second leg fixture in Barcelona will be announced in due course.
