Internationals: Which Chelsea players are away and what games are taking place?

The 2022/23 season is not over just yet for many of our players as a slate of international matches are taking place in June, and here we round up squad selections and upcoming fixtures.

In Europe, the third UEFA Nations League reaches its conclusion with two Blues set to feature, and there are also qualifying matches for next summer’s Euros in Germany.

Around the rest of the world there are a mix of competitive and friendly fixtures on the horizon, and there is the possibility of up to four young Chelsea stars taking part in the Under-21 European Championships, too…

UEFA Nations League finals

Croatia: Mateo Kovacic – Croatia play tournament hosts Netherlands in the first semi-final in Rotterdam on Wednesday 14 June.

Spain: Kepa – Spain meanwhile take on Italy in the other semi on Thursday 15 June.

The final is on Sunday 18 June, with the third/fourth-place play-off earlier that day.

CONCACAF Nations League finals

USA: Christian Pulisic – Taking place almost simultaneously are the CONCACAF Nations League finals, which America won the inaugural version of two years ago. They play Mexico in the semi-final on 15 June, with the final scheduled for 18 June.

Later in the summer America are competing in the Gold Cup on home soil, with their first fixture against Jamaica scheduled for 24 June.

Euro 2024 qualifiers

Belgium: Romelu Lukaku – games at home to Austria on 17 June and away to Estonia on 20 June.

England: Conor Gallagher – away to Malta on 16 June and at home to North Macedonia on 19 June.

France: Wesley Fofana – away to Gibraltar on 16 June and at home to Greece on 19 June.

Portugal: Joao Felix – home to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 17 June and away to Iceland on 20 June.

Switzerland: Denis Zakaria – away to Andorra on 16 June and at home to Romania on 19 June.

Ukraine: Mykhailo Mudryk – away to North Macedonia on 16 June and at home to Malta on 19 June. Ukraine also have a charity match against Germany on 12 June.

Wales: Ethan Ampadu – home to Armenia on 16 June and away to Turkey on 19 June.

AFCON qualifiers

Morocco: Hakim Ziyech – away to South Africa on 17 June. Morocco also have a friendly at home to Cape Verde on 12 June.

Senegal: Kalidou Koulibaly – away to Benin on 17 June. Senegal also have a friendly against Brazil, in Lisbon, on 20 June.

Friendlies

Argentina: Enzo Fernandez – fixtures against Australia on 15 June (in Beijing) and away to Indonesia on 19 June.

Cameroon: Ben Elliott – friendly against Mexico (in the US) on Saturday 10 June.

Ecuador: Kendry Paez – our new signing, who will join us after his 18th birthday, has been included in the senior Ecuador squad for the first time. They play Bolivia on 17 June and Costa Rica on 20 June, both games held in the US.

Germany: Kai Havertz – as hosts Germany have qualified for Euro 2024 so they have friendlies at home to Ukraine (12 June) and Colombia (20 June), and away to Poland (16 June).

Under-21 European Championships

Noni MaduekeLevi Colwill and Lewis Hall are all currently involved in an England Under-21 training camp at St George’s Park. The final squad of 23 will be announced on Wednesday 14 June. England’s first game is against Czech Republic on 22 June, followed by meetings with Israel (25 June) and Germany (28 June).

Ian Maatsen has been included in Netherlands’ provisional squad for the tournament. They play a warm-up game against Japan’s Olympic team on 14 June, before taking on Belgium (21 June), Portugal (24 June) and hosts Georgia (27 June) in the group stage.

Benoit Badiashile’s injury has ruled him out of being named in France’s squad.

Other Under-21/23 fixtures

Ivory Coast: David Fofana is taking part in the Toulon Tournament. He scored in Ivory Coast’s 1-1 draw with Panama in their first game on Wednesday. They play Bolivia on Saturday and Japan on Tuesday 13 June.

Norway: Bryan Fiabema has been called up for a pair of friendlies against Scotland in Spain on 15 June and 18 June.

Wales: Eddie Beach has been named in the Welsh squad for their first 2025 Euro Under-21 Championship qualifier, away to Denmark on 20 June.
