Two London rivals are reunited in battle for the first piece of silverware of the season as Chelsea face Arsenal in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final at Molineux tomorrow (Sunday).
This will be the third occasion the clubs have met in the showpiece game of the League Cup – the joint most a fixture has been played in the final – and it is just the third time a final has featured the same teams in consecutive years.
We have reached this stage of the competition for the fifth successive year and are now presented with our first shot at silverware this season.
Molineux is playing host to what will be a second meeting between the sides in quick succession after our Women’s Super League encounter at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Lauren James opened the scoring in front of a record crowd in SW6 before Sjoeke Nusken notched a brace to secure three vital points in the defence of our WSL crown.
League exploits are placed on hold with all eyes on Sunday’s showpiece League Cup final which promises to be a spectacle.
When and where?
Molineux, home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, is the setting for the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final on Sunday 31 March. Kick-off is scheduled for 3.00pm (UK time).

The form
Due to our participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, we entered the League Cup at the quarter-final stage and overcame Sunderland, who are going for promotion from the Barclays Women’s Championship.
In the semi-finals, we were pitted against Manchester City at the Joie Stadium in a heavyweight battle. An early goal from James was enough to send the Blues through to our fifth successive League Cup final.
Arsenal, meanwhile, finished top of Group D with three wins and one draw from four matches. That sealed their place in the quarter-finals where they came out on top against Championship opposition in the shape of London City Lionesses.
The Gunners faced Aston Villa at the semi-final stage of the competition and hit four goals without reply to set up a repeat of the 2023 final, where the Gunners emerged victorious.
Arsenal vs Chelsea: recent head-to-head record
Our most recent meeting with Arsenal came in the WSL at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, a memorable night under the lights which drew the biggest home attendance in Chelsea Women history and was capped by a fine performance and result.
James continued her impressive scoring form at the Bridge, before Nusken popped up with two goals to seal a 3-1 victory for Emma Hayes’ side in front of our fans who turned out in force and created a special atmosphere that will live long in the memory.
Travel and access
Supporters making the journey to Wolverhampton are warned about the cancellation of some rail services between London and the West Midlands, with no trains in or out of London Euston Station on Sunday. Full details are here.
