Chelsea Women vs Aston Villa preview: Kick-off time, where to watch and more
From the official Chelsea FC website:
The 2024/25 Women’s Super League begins this week with Chelsea starting the defence of our title on home soil at Kingsmeadow.
There is a new face in the dugout at Kingsmeadow and Sonia Bompastor‘s competitive reign begins with the visit of Aston Villa to west London for a Friday night kick-off.
The target for the new season remains the same as ever, though. Namely, extending our incredible run to a sixth successive WSL title in 2025, and that work begins this week when our campaign gets under way.
When and where?
We face Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow on Friday 20 September, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm (UK time).

The form
Friday will be Bompastor’s first competitive match with the Blues, but she has already made an impressive start to her time at the club.
A successful tour of the USA saw us record back-to-back victories Stateside against local team Gotham and fellow WSL contenders Arsenal, before the icing on the cake arrived in the form an incredible 9-0 thrashing of Feyenoord on Bompastor’s Kingsmeadow debut just over a week ago.
That followed on from a run of three league wins on the trot at the end of last season to seal our fifth WSL title in a row, a run which included an 8-0 hammering of Bristol City in our last competitive match at Kingsmeadow and the trophy-clinching 6-0 win at Manchester United on the final day.
Aston Villa ended the previous campaign in mixed form, but won two of their last four away trips in the WSL, en route to a seventh-placed finish in the table. They were also undefeated in pre-season, with a draw at Charlton Athletic followed by wins over Everton and Manchester City.
Recent head-to-head
Last season’s meetings continued our excellent record against Aston Villa, with a 6-0 win in the Midlands followed by a 3-0 home win in April. That means we have won all eight of our matches against the Villans in the WSL, with an aggregate scoreline of 23-1.
Villa have suffered more at the hands of Chelsea than anyone else, with the eight consecutive losses while scoring just once their worst record against any opponent, and they have only conceded more to two other teams.
