View From In Front Of My Screen – Chelsea v Wolves

Chelsea vs. Wolverhampton – January 20, 2025 – Attendance 39,221

Chelsea took on Wolves in an engaging Premier League clash that highlighted both the current strengths and weaknesses of the team. The match which ended in a 3-1 victory for Chelsea, boosting their chances for a European place.

Chelsea made fve changes – including a frst Premier League start since his summer move from Leicester for Dewsbury-Hall and Trevor Chalobah on his recall from loan at Crystal Palace and they began brightly.

From the kickoff, Chelsea displayed aggressive attacking play, with four shots in the first five minutes putting pressure the Wolves defense. The home side opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a well controlled turn and strike from Tosin Adarabioyo hitting the back of the net, after a lengthy VAR review it was given.

Chelsea then took their foot off the gas as has been their habit in recent games allowing Wolves to come back into the game, Wolves equalized shortly before halftime after another mistake by Sanchez as he dropped the ball under pressure allowing Doherty to stab the ball home from Close range.

As the second half unfolded, Chelsea continued to dominate possession and created several goal-scoring opportunities. The decisive moment came in the 60th minute when Marc Cucurella on his 100th Premier League appearance chested down a flick on from Dewsbury-Hall and shot past Sarr, Five minutes later a free-kick swung in by Palmer was met by a high rising Chalohah the ball beating the goalie and heading in, was finished off by Madueke for his fourth goal this season against Wolves sealing the game for the Blues.

Chelsea completely controlled the game after this and had a fourth goal ruled out for offside after Nicolas Jackson had gone too early when latching on to a Palmer through ball and fnishing with a fne strike. Defensively, Chelsea showed some improvement with Chalobah rising to the occasion on his return, managing to limit Wolverhampton’s chances in critical moments, but Sanchez still gives plenty of heart stopping moments.

Upfront Nicolas Jackson had plenty of chances, but still resembles Bambi when running with the ball and needs to improve his close control and finishing.

Overall, it was an entertaining match that highlighted there is still room for improvement in killing off opponents when we are on top.

Pleased with the three points, and climbing back into 4th place above our next Premier League opponents Manchester City.

My MOTM: Chalobah for his solid performance and an assist that should have been a goal!
