Chelsea discover Champions League Round of 16 opponents
From the official Chelsea FC website:
Chelsea have been drawn against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16.
Our place in the Round of 16 was secured last month, as our impressive 3-2 victory away at Napoli ensured we finished sixth in the league phase table and progressed directly as part of the top eight.
PSG, meanwhile, had to come through the knockout phase play-offs. They faced fellow Ligue 1 side Monaco and advanced after claiming a hard-earned 5-4 aggregate win.
We have faced the Parisians nine times in our history. Eight of those meetings have come in the Champions League, but the most recent came last summer at the Club World Cup.
The Blues faced Luis Enrique’s side in the final of the competition and produced an outstanding display in New Jersey to claim a 3-0 victory and be crowned world champions.
Should Chelsea progress beyond the Round of 16, we will face either Galatasaray or Liverpool in the quarter-final.
Advance beyond that stage and one of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Atalanta or Bayern Munich would await in the semis.
Round of 16 ties are due to be played over 10/11 March and 17/18 March. Full fixture and ticket information will follow in due course.
