Chelsea launch new club podcast to take fans behind the scenes of the most successful team in Barclays Women’s Super League history
ChelseaWomen have announced the launch of a new official club podcast dedicated solely to the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) team.
‘We Are Chelsea’, will bring fans closer than ever before to Chelsea’s star players, and provide unrivalled behind-the-scenes access and insight into the dressing room of the current league champions.
As well as deep dives on memorable moments and hot takes on key match moments, the podcast will reveal the team’s journey from humble beginnings to the elite level of the women’s game.
The opening episode of the show featuring Chelsea stars Erin Cuthbert and Guro Reiten has been released today, the day before Chelsea take on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a top-of-the-table Barclays Women’s Super League match, with over 30,000 tickets already sold for the game.
In the first episode, Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Erin Cuthbert highlights the importance of striking a balance at a time when the women’s game is growing rapidly around the world to ensure the women’s game retains a special connection to fans whilst also consistently producing world-class moments on the pitch.
“Our primary job is performing for the fans on the pitch and giving the fans a product they want to see. Women’s football is lucky enough compared to geting accessibility, but it’s just striking a balance. We need to eat a certain amount of time straight after the game, we have games in quick succession, and we need to recover quicker.
“As long as they know we still appreciate them, we still want them to keep turning up and give them what they deserve. As long as we keep winning for them that is the most important thing.”
Alongside all the player reaction from the latest matches as the team challenges for the top across four competitions in the 2023/24 season, the podcast will also feature in-depth interviews with ever-present players that will offer a unique insight into how much the women’s game has grown since the inception of the league in 2011.
Coming soon, Chelsea and England captain Millie Bright will share her journey of ‘How It Started’, looking back at her path to the top of professional football.
A ‘Life in Blue’ content strand will also look back on some of the most memorable moments players have experienced in a Chelsea shirt, in parallel to the dramatic rise of women’s football around the world.
As well as distribution across Apple and Spotify, the full show will be available to watch on the club website, 5th Stand app, and YouTube channel.
Claire Cronin, Chelsea FC Chief Marketing Officer said: “The launch of a podcast dedicated to our women’s first team provides an opportunity to showcase the amazing world-class athletes who represent our club and connect them to our growing UK and global fanbases.
‘We see the chance to tell the players’ stories through a long-form podcast, supported by short-form clip distribution across social media as an important part of our overall marketing strategy to drive the visibility of the fantastic people we are fortunate enough to have here.”
We Are Chelsea is presented by Caroline De Moraes and is produced by Crowd Branded on behalf of Chelsea FC.
