Home draw for Women’s League Cup opener

From the official Chelsea FC website:

Chelsea have been drawn at home against Durham in our opening match of this season’s Subway Women’s League Cup.

The draw for both the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the rebranded Subway Women’s League Cup were held today at Pride Park in Derby, which will also be the venue for this season’s final.

Chelsea were the first team drawn out of the hat, handing us a home tie at Kingsmeadow, with the visitors to be Women’s Super League 2 side Durham. Those ties are set to be played across 22-23 January.

We previously faced Durham in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup in 2019, when Ji So-Yun’s goal gave us a 1-0 win.

If we progress past that match with Durham, we will then face the winner of Tottenham Hotspur’s quarter-final against West Ham United in the semis, also at home.

Due to our participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Chelsea enter the League Cup at the quarter-finals, as do Arsenal and Manchester City. We were joined in today’s draw by the five winners from the group stage – Tottenham, Durham, West Ham, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

We have reached the last five consecutive finals of this competition and lifted the trophy in both 2020 and 2021, but have lost the last three finals.
