Chelsea FanCast Vs The Press! Tuesday December 4th 20.00 GMT

On Tuesday December 4th The Chelsea FanCast will be recording a special one off show. We have invited some of the leading Football Journalists to debate the press coverage of Chelsea FC and the Fans. Think the ASBO lovechild of ‘Question Time’ meets ‘Sunday Supplement’! ‘Stamford’ Chidge will present the show and assume the David Dimbleby role, and will ask questions sent in by Chelsea fans from all over the world.

We are delighted to announce that Martin Lipton, Chief Football Writer at the Mirror; Neil Ashton, the Daily Mail’s Football News Correspondent; Rob Shepherd, football writer formerly at Today; the Daily Express and the News of the World and Dan Levene, Chelsea FC writer for the Fulham Chronicle will all be on the panel.

There are many issues currently on the agenda. Chelsea fans believe that both they and the club are getting unfair treatment from the press. Whilst elements of this are clearly justified, the intensity and volume of these attacks leads us to believe that it is driven by an agenda. However, this will not be a hatchet job on the Press led by Chelsea attack dogs. During the show we will be discussing issues such as the relationship between the press, club, players and fans; the impact of social media; the negativity surrounding Chelsea; Terry-gate; Clattenburg-gate and Di Matteo & Benitez.

This is a unique opportunity for Chelsea fans to explain how they feel and get a response from the Press as to what is really going on and why.

The Chelsea Football FanCast has been going for about 5 years now. It’s a 2 hour weekly podcast hosted by FootballFanCast.com, downloadable from ITunes and streamed live by mixlr.com and has somewhere in the region of 30-40,000 listeners every week from literally every corner of the globe, reflecting the global support for Chelsea FC. It has a significant presence and voice amongst Chelsea Fans both old and new, near and far. Its aim has always been to represent the fans post-match pub chat, and is authentic, forthright, independent, anarchic and fun in tone. In 2011, The Chelsea FanCast gained a seat at the Chelsea FC Supporters’ Consultative Forum (The Fans’ Forum). In 2012 the show was awarded the ‘Best Football Podcast’ by the Football Blogging Awards

Is a Film and TV Producer, having produced programmes such as ‘The Greatest Goals For/Against Man Utd’; ’50 Greatest Sportsmen We Love to Love/Hate’; ‘Berlin or Bust’ and ‘The WKD Shed Sports Show’. He has been a Chelsea season ticket holder in Gate 17 Matthew Harding Upper for over ten years and a supporter for over 25 years. He has produced and presented the Chelsea FanCast since 2008. He has been a regular contributor to the cfcuk Fanzine for over 4 years and has regularly been asked to comment on Chelsea Fan related issues on London Tonight; FiveLive; TalkSport; TV2 and Sports Tonight Live and the written media. He is currently a member of the working group to establish the Chelsea FC Supporters Trust.

Martin Lipton:

A journalist since leaving University in 1988 and now in his 11th year as Chief Football Writer on the Daily Mirror after a career including four years at the Daily Mail and four years with the Press Association. Covered England at every tournament since 1996 and as lead writer since France 98. Also seen Chelsea win the Cup Winners’ Cup, three Premier Leagues, the Champions League and various assorted domestic cups. Covered every Chelsea managerial change since Vialli replaced Gullit. And he remembers what football was like before Sky and the Premier League.

Neil Ashton:

Is the football news correspondent at the Daily Mail and the presenter of the Sunday Supplement on Sky Sports One. Named sports news reporter of the year in 2011, he has also been in the Independent’s “Hot 100” media list. Ashton previously worked at the News of the World, where he was the paper’s chief football correspondent, before returning to the Mail in September 2011. He is also a regular contributor to FiveLive’s football programming and presented The Morning Show for Al Jazeera every day throughout Euro 2012.

Rob Shepherd:

Rob has been a football writer for over 25 years writing for papers such as Today, The Daily Express, The Sunday Times and the News of the World. A massive West Ham fan he is a proper character and worked in the days when the relationship between the players and the press was a lot closer and better than it is today. Having said that, Rob was banned from Bobby Robson’s 1990 world cup HQ and he was once wrestled to the ground by Martin Keown!! His biggest scoop was breaking the news Terry Venables would quit as England manager whatever the outcome of Euro 96 because FA refused to sanction a new contract. His finest achievement on a football pitch was sticking a winning goal past Jan Tomeszewski in a media match in Katowice. Over zealously he celebrated by kissing him on the cheek and saying that’s for 1973 Clown!

Dan Levene:

Dan Levene is a freelance journalist who covers Chelsea for various papers. He is Chelsea man for our local paper, the Fulham Chronicle, and is best known to Chelsea fans as @blueschronicle on Twitter. He has worked in press and PR for 20 years, and has supported Chelsea since Pat Nevin was the glorious future of this club
