Chelsea Top Appearance Makers And Milestones In 2021/22
From the official Chelsea FC website:
Our review of the key facts and figures from the 2021/22 season continues with a look at which players made the most appearances during the course of the campaign and which milestones they surpassed…
Appearances
Antonio Rudiger made more appearances for Chelsea in all competitions than any other player in 2021/22, with his 54 matches putting him one ahead of Mason Mount in second place, and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy a further four behind.
None of those 54 appearances by Rudiger in 2021/22 came from the bench, meaning the margin is wider when it comes to starts in all competitions during this season. Mendy is second, having also been named in Thomas Tuchel‘s starting line-up for all 49 of his appearances, but Mount falls back to third as 12 of his 53 games were as a substitute.
Despite celebrating his 37th birthday during the 2021/22 season, Thiago Silva played 4,284 minutes for Chelsea, 223 more than 23-year-old Mason Mount. Antonio Rudiger (5,380 minutes) was the only outfield player to spend more time on the pitch than the Brazilian this season.
Mateo Kovacic was the most substituted Chelsea player, coming off on 17 of his 33 appearances, closely followed by Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, who were all substituted 16 times.
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga spent the most time on the bench, being an unused substitute in 47 matches. Of the outfield players, Saul is the highest, having been an unused susbtitute on 32 occasions, narrowly more then Malang Sarr (31) and Ross Barkley (30).
Goals and assists
Romelu Lukaku finished the season as Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions, with 15 goals to his name. Kai Havertz scored one less, with Mount a further one behind on 13 goals, with all three of their tallies including a single penalty each.
Four players scored further goals, but had them ruled out by VAR in 2021/22 – Marcos Alonso, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Mason Mount’s 18 assists was comfortably the highest figure managed by anyone in a Chelsea shirt in 2021/22, with wing-backs Reece James (12) and Alonso (10) the next best for the club.

Antonio Rudiger also made his 200th appearance in all competitions, two weeks later in the 3-0 Premier League win at Leeds United.
