Design Museum Kensington Visit

Football: Designing the Beautiful Game

Following on from the Chelsea Supporters Group (CSG) article regarding the Design Museum in High Street Kensington, myself, Michelle S and Liz from the CSG committee decided to make a visit before the exhibition finishes on 29th August 2022.

Having previously been to see the National Football Museum at Preston and Manchester, I was intrigued to know how this exhibition compared to those.

Timed entry was just £14 (OAP) and, because it was ‘timed’ it was very unrushed and you had plenty of time to look at everything on show.

Interesting half and half scarves
Calling Cards

As well as a couple of exhibits on Chelsea there was also over 500 objects including a very large personal banner on the wall from Liverpool supporters remembering the Hillsborough Tragedy.

There were plenty of shirts from around the world as well as some ‘interesting’ half and half scarves! Boots, Footballs, Posters, Programmes, Fanzines, Subutteo and other football games from the past were on display.

My favourite displays were the supporters ‘calling cards!’ (although there wasn’t a “you have been nominated and dealt with by the Chelsea Headhunters!”) bought back memories from the 80’s (not all good!) and, the old ‘turnstyles’and ‘wooden seats’

If you are into your football memorabilia then I would certainly recommend a visit, great way to spend a couple of nostalgic hours
