Tributes planned to honour Queen Elizabeth II

From the official Chelsea FC website:

Prior to Chelsea’s Champions League game against RB Salzburg tomorrow, a series of tributes will be made to pay respects to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

UEFA’s usual pre-match ceremony, including the competition anthem and centre-circle flag presentation, will not take place to reflect the subdued tone during this period of national mourning.

Instead, Stamford Bridge will pause for a minute’s silence prior to kick-off in memory of our late monarch. Two Chelsea Pensioners will lay wreaths following the pre-match warm-ups and the players will also wear black armbands.

The ‘We Are the Shed’ fan group will hang Union Jack flags along the middle tier of the Shed End along with a banner paying tribute to Her Majesty.

RB Salzburg supporters will pay their respects by walking from Earls Court to Stamford Bridge in contemplative silence before the match, setting off at approximately 5.30pm.

Once in the stadium, the Austrian fans intend to cover their club colours with a black banner during the pre-match commemorations taking place.
