EFL Trophy fixtures and dates announced

From the official Chelsea FC website:

Our young Blues will take on the senior sides of MK Dons, Oxford United and Northampton Town in the group stages of this year’s Papa Johns Trophy.

The competition is in its fifth year with invited academy teams involved alongside the 48 clubs from League One and League Two. Teams face each other once in the regionalised group stage before the top two advance to the knockout round.

Last year, our development squad in their first season under head coach Mark Robinson reached the last 16 of the competition where they were knocked out by Cheltenham Town.

The pick of last year’s results was a 4-2 win against Peterborough United away from home in the round of 32.

This year, Robinson’s men are due to start their campaign away against MK Dons on Tuesday 29 August with kick-off at 7.45pm, although this subject to change depending on MK Dons progress in the Carabao Cup.

Northampton Town are next and that away game will be held on Tuesday 26 September with kick-off at 7pm.

Our last group-stage game will be away against Oxford United on Tuesday 7 November with kick-off also at 7pm.

All our group-stage fixtures will be played away from home.
