Chelsea face Brighton in Carabao Cup
From the official Chelsea FC website:
Chelsea will host Premier League opposition in the the Carabao Cup after being paired with Brighton & Hove Albion in the draw for the third round.
Chelsea secured our progress to the next round with a 2-1 home victory over AFC Wimbledon tonight, coming from behind after conceding from a penalty, as Noni Madueke slotted in from the spot himself at the end of the first half, before Enzo Fernandez‘s composed finish gave us the win.
Our reward is another tie at Stamford Bridge with a fellow top-flight side the visitors this time around, taking on a Brighton team which enters the competition at this stage due to their participation in this season’s Europa League.
It will be our first meeting with the Seagulls in the competition, although we have faced them once at the Bridge in the FA Cup, winning 4-0 in 1967 with a brace from Blues legend Bobby Tambling. We were defeated in both Premier League fixtures last season.
The third round is the first stage of the Carabao Cup that is unseeded, with all the teams who made it through the earlier rounds joined by the teams competing in Europe in the draw, which is no longer divided between northern and southern sections.
