Young Blues to compete in PL International Cup
From the official Chelsea FC website:
Chelsea will compete in the competition for the first time since 2016 and the draw for the group stage of the competition has been made…
We have been drawn in Group B where we will take on Celtic, Lyon, Dinamo Zagreb and Valencia.
All fixtures against sides outside of England will be hosted by Chelsea.
Identical to the rules in the PL2 competition, teams are allowed to field three over-age outfield players and one over-age goalkeeper per match.
Competition format
The 24 teams are split into three groups of eight. Each PL2 club will play each of the four international clubs in their group.
The PL2 teams do not face each other, neither do the international teams play one another in the group stage.
The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams advance to the quarter-finals.
In the knockout stages, the ties are decided in one-off matches, with extra-time and then penalties required if the match is level after 90 minutes.
We last featured in the competition in the 2016/17 season where we finished third in a group that consisted of Dinamo Zagreb who we will play again this year, Feyenoord and Swansea City.
