PL2 preview: Williams looks to bounce back against the Baggies

From the official Chelsea FC website:

The Chelsea Under-21s will be looking to get back to winning ways following consecutive defeats when West Bromwich Albion come to Kingsmeadow in the Premier League 2 for a match which kicks off at 7pm on Friday evening.

West Brom are up next for Chelsea as our Under-21s play their last match before the international break. It has been a difficult couple of weeks for our development squad as good performances have not been matched with the results wanted.

After being two goals up against Brighton, Chelsea surrendered that lead, ultimately losing 3-2. The following week saw another 3-2 loss to Norwich, away from home this time. Tuesday night’s game against MK Dons proved to be a tougher blow to take as despite having a bulk of the chances on the night, our boys were defeated 4-1.

Positive mindset

Despite this, one of the more experienced members of the group, Dylan Williams, is optimistic and he spoke about his belief in the team and their development.

‘I think you have to remember that the team has changed a lot from the previous season. We have a lot of growing to do as a side but the important thing is we do that growing together.

‘It will not come overnight but as long as we continue to apply what we are being taught, we will be able to be more clinical and see out games better. That can only come with experience.’

Results will come

The performances from our boys have been positive and Dylan was adamant that it is only a matter of time before we see the best of the team.

‘If anyone is watching the games they can see that we are creating chances and getting ourselves in the right positions. We look dangerous and because we are a largely new squad we are just fine-tuning our chemistry.’

He continued, ‘The coaching team have spent a lot of time speaking to us and showing us where we can improve, whilst keeping the morale of the team up, so we cannot thank them enough.’

Last time out in the PL2

Jimmy-Jay Morgan scored his first competitive goal for the Under-21s and Ronnie Stutter was on target for a fifth time in three PL2 games for Mark Robinson’s side in East Anglia, however we could not find the goals to overturn the Norwich lead.

The Canaries took the lead early on in the game but we responded well to level. However, despite our chances the home team managed to score two goals. Stutter gave us hope with over 25 minutes left to play but it was to no avail as we ended up on the losing side.

Friday’s game will kick off at 7pm and will be held at Kingsmeadow. Following this match, it will be an international break and our young Blues will be looking to grab three points before a short pause in the domestic action.
