Chelsea loan report: How those away from Stamford Bridge are faring

With the 2024/25 campaign entering its third month, we delve into how the Chelsea players out on loan have fared at their respective clubs so far.
There are currently 20 players plying their trade at home and abroad, with many competing in top flights across the continent and others gaining valuable senior experience in the English football league pyramid.
Our first stop is France, where three Blues are making their mark…
Andrey Santos, Djordje Petrovic and Caleb Wiley | Strasbourg
Having caught the eye during the second half of last season with Strasbourg, Andrey Santos returned to the Ligue 1 side in the summer and has hit the ground running this term.
The Brazil international has made six appearances in the French top tier, claiming three goals and registering an assist. Andrey’s strong start also saw him named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Month for August.
Meanwhile, Petrovic has featured in every fixture for the club since joining on loan on August 30. Strasbourg are unbeaten with the Serbian goalkeeper between the posts, and he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over high-flying Marseille.
Wiley completed his loan move to Strasbourg having represented the USA at this summer’s Olympic Games. He started their opening two fixtures of the campaign and earned an assist in the third against Lyon at the end of August. He has since been recovering from an injury.
Trevoh Chalobah | Crystal Palace
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Chalobah has been plying his trade for Palace since moving on loan in the summer.
He was an unused substitute during their 2-1 defeat to Everton at the end of September, but since made his debut against Liverpool last weekend, starting as part of a back three as the Eagles look to turn around their disappointing form.
Raheem Sterling | Arsenal
Next up is Sterling, who moved on loan to the Gunners on deadline day. He made his debut in the North London derby during the latter stages of the match, starting his first match against Bolton in the Carabao Cup where he created Arsenal’s second and scored their fourth during a 5-1 victory.
His first start in the Premier League would come at the Emirates Stadium during their most recent 3-1 victory over Southampton.
Kepa Arrizabalaga | Bournemouth
The shot-stopper moved on loan to the Cherries in the summer having signed a one-year extension with the Blues, becoming Bournemouth’s number one.
Linking up with manager Andoni Iraola who enjoyed 12 years at Athletic Bilbao – the club where Kepa began his own career – the goalkeeper made his debut against Everton in their dramatic 3-2 victory, coming back from two goals down.
Despite not being eligible for the game against the Blues, he has since featured against Liverpool, Leicester and Southampton.
Lesley Ugochukwu | Southampton
On the eve of the 2024/25 campaign, midfielder Ugochukwu moved on loan to newly promoted Southampton as he looked to continue his development after making his debut for the Blues last season.
Lesley made his first appearance for the Saints in the Carabao Cup during their 5-3 victory over Cardiff, with his Southampton PL debut coming against Manchester United following the September international break.
Armando Broja | Everton
Having moved to Merseyside on a season-long loan in August, Broja has been absent through injury and is yet to make an appearance for the Toffees.
Alfie Gilchrist | Sheffield United
Moving away from the Premier League, defender Gilchrist has enjoyed a productive start to life at Bramall Lane. Our Academy graduate has made 10 appearances across all competitions for Sheffield United at right-back, starting eight of those matches.
Gilchrist’s Blades are the only unbeaten team in the Championship so far this season and he has helped them keep six consecutive clean sheets in a row. Currently in second place – level on points with table toppers Sunderland – Alfie will be hoping to maintain his solid form.
Bashir Humphreys – Burnley
Joining up with recently relegated Burnley in the summer, Humphreys has started five times in total for the Clarets coming from both full-back positions. Burnley are yet to concede in the league with the 21-year-old on the pitch.
David Datro Fofana | Goztepe SK
Away from England, striker Fofana has made an impact during his loan spell in Turkey’s first division.
Making two substitute appearances in three games, the 21-year-old most recently scored a 94th-minute winner – his first goal of the season – in Goztepe’s 3-2 win over Sivasspor. Having now settled at his temporary club, Fofana will be hoping to continue his good start.
Aaron Anselmino | Boca Juniors
Having moved across the Atlantic to join Chelsea from his boyhood club Boca Juniors, Anselmino returned to his native Argentina to continue his development for the next 12 months.
Since rejoining Boca, Aaron has played eight times across all competitions, memorably earning two assists in his first game back on home soil since signing for the Blues against San Lorenzo.
Dylan Williams and Ronnie Stutter | Burton Albion
Heading back to the UK, the young Blues duo of Williams and Stutter moved to League One side Burton at the start of the campaign, joining former Under-21 head coach, and current Brewers manager, Mark Robinson.
Full-back Williams has been an ever-present for his temporary side featuring 11 times – including 10 starts – across the third tier, the Carabao Cup and the EFL Trophy. The versatile 21-year-old has been deployed at left-back, centre-back as part of a back three and at left midfield.
Centre forward Stutter made his debut for Burton Albion last weekend, coming off the bench with 20 minutes left to play during a 3-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.
Leo Castledine | Shrewsbury Town
Elsewhere in League One, Castledine has been settling into life at Shrewsbury. The attacking midfielder scored on his first league start, helping Shrewsbury beat Leyton Orient 3-0 on opening day.
The 19-year-old has proved to be a consistent and popular figure in Shropshire, also converting against Mansfield Town at the end of September.
Eddie Beach | Crawley Town
Completing a season-long loan move to Crawley in August, Beach is part of the Blues’ League One loan contingent. The young shot-stopper joined a goalkeeping unit at the club which includes Joe Wollacott.
Making his debut during a draw against Brighton’s Under-21s, Eddie made the all-important save in the resulting shootout to earn his side an extra point against the Seagulls back in August, but is currently absent due to injury.
Gaga Slonina | Barnsley
It has been a promising start for goalkeeper Slonina, who enjoyed an incredible debut for Barnsley after joining on a loan move until the end of the season.
Making two saves during a penalty shootout with Wigan, Gaga earned his side safe passage to the next round of the Carabao Cup while also being named the competition’s Player of the Round for his heroics.
In the second round, Slonina kept a clean sheet and helped the Tractor Boys beat Championship side Sheffield United to set up a mouthwatering contest with Manchester United and a trip to Old Trafford.
In League One, Slonina has been Barnsley’s number one with his side currently occupying the midtable positions.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe | Doncaster Rovers
After putting pen to paper on a new deal at the end of last season, Sharman-Lowe moved on loan to Doncaster Rovers for the new campaign.
The goalkeeper has been an ever-present in the league for Rovers, keeping four clean sheets across nine appearances with his club currently ranked fourth in League Two.
Ted Curd | Hampton & Richmond
Joining National League South side Hampton & Richmond in June, goalkeeper Curd has been an important presence between the sticks for the Beavers. Ted has made 11 appearances in the league helping to keep four clean sheets as he looks to continue his development.
He was also called up to England’s Under-19 squad to face Portugal, Netherlands and France for the October international break.
Luke Campbell | Hendon
Making 12 appearances during his maiden loan as a Chelsea player, Campbell is enjoying game time at Hendon including playing in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy.
The youngster made a crucial penalty save to earn his side a point in the dying stages of Hendon’s match against Chatham Town.
