Supporters show their skills at Cobham
From the official Chelsea FC website:
A tournament for Chelsea fans to enjoy the pitches at Cobham while competing for trophies was back up and running this weekend.
Forty-eight teams took part with over twice as many applying and a draw had to be held for entry. There were competitions for men’s sides and for the first time, women’s and walking football teams.
In weather the organisers described as ‘very challenging’, six-a-side league-format matches were followed by a knockout competition.
‘We had some very competitive games but all done in good humour and in the spirit of the event which culminated in three of the four finals being decided by a penalty shoot-out,’ reported Peter Trenter from the Chelsea Supporters Group and Cliff Auger from the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust.
‘We send our commiserations to the losers (albeit we are all winners of course!) and many congratulations to our winners.’
Those winners were:
- Men’s Cup – Tadley Chelsea
- Men’s Plate – Giroud Awakening
- Women’s Plaque – Sophie’s Ingles
- Walking Plaque – Chelsea Kingston
A raffle was held and money raised by the event is being split between two charities – Sepsis Trust UK and The Chelsea Foundation.
After what was judged a successful summer Saturday, plans are in place for a return to Cobham in 2025.
The football tournament is one of a number of recent supporter-led events which have raised money for the Chelsea Foundation. They included a golf tournament held at The Caversham in Berkshire which is pictured below…
