Chelsea to play Borussia Dortmund in Chicago

From the official Chelsea FC website:

The fifth and final game of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the USA has been confirmed, with the Blues taking on Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

Chelsea will be visiting five cities on the East Coast of the United States of America in the summer of 2023 and our schedule is now complete, with a trip to Chicago to face German side Borussia Dortmund confirmed for Wednesday 2 August.

Tickets for the match at Soldier Field will be available to Chelsea supporters on pre-sale for 24 hours from 9am central time on Monday 1 May, before going on general sale at the same time the following day.

Also, for the first time in the Blues’ history, we are bringing our award-winning Club Chelsea hospitality overseas. We are offering a limited number of premium VIP packages for the game in Chicago and across all the matchday locations during the summer tour of the USA.

The Blues will be playing our first-ever game at Soldier Field, the 61,500-capacity home of the Chicago Bears NFL team and Chicago Fire of the MLS. We have been to Chicago before, though, in August 2006, when Jose Mourinho’s Premier League champions were beaten 1-0 by the MLS All Stars at what is now the SeatGeek Stadium on the city’s outskirts.

This will be Chelsea’s final match in the USA before returning home ahead of the start of our 2022/23 Premier League campaign, and will see us play against Dortmund for the second time this year, after goals by Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz gave us a 2-1 aggregate win over the same opponents in the Champions League last 16. The two games of that tie are the only competitive meetings between the sides.

Tom Glick, Chelsea FC president of business, said: ‘We are delighted to visit Chicago as part of our US tour in 2023 and play in an iconic venue at Soldier Field. We are proud of our strong fanbase in the US and we look forward to meeting our fans in Chicago this summer.’
